Description

WELCOME!

You have reached the volunteer shift sign up page for the Philadelphia 2016 DNC Green Team.

One of our most important and exciting sustainability goals is to reduce landfill waste by diverting traditional landfill waste from the convention venues into recycling and composting sites. Green Team volunteers are key to the success of this effort.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the minimum commitment to join the Green Team?

A: We are asking each volunteer to sign up for at least 2 shifts in order to be accepted to the program.

Q: What, if any, trainings will I need to attend prior to volunteering?

A: There will be a mandatory volunteer training session at the Convention Center the week prior to the Convention. In order to participate in the program, you must attend the volunteer training in person or the scheduled training webinars. You will receive a confirmation email with additional details.

Q: What will I do when I volunteer with the Green Team?

A: As a member of the Green Team, you will interact with and familiarize attendees with the recycling system, offering guidance to attendees about how to properly dispose of their items. Volunteers will serve as educational hosts and stand by an Eco Station, which is a three-bin station featuring recycling, compost and landfill bins, to help answer questions from attendees.

Q: When is the Convention?

A: The Convention runs Monday, July 25th – Thursday, July 28th.

Q: Where is the Convention?

A: The activities will be divided between the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the Wells Fargo Center. Shift times and assignments will be coordinated by the Green Team Managers in advance and we are unable to guarantee placement as the Green Team volunteers are required at various locations throughout the venues.

Q: What is the commitment for Green Team volunteers?

A: Each Green Team volunteer will sign up for a minimum of two shifts. You are welcome to volunteer for more than two shifts, but prior to committing yourself to these shifts, please ensure that your schedule allows you to fulfill both the temporal and physical demands of volunteering.

Q: How long are the volunteer shifts?

A: Green Team volunteer shifts are 6-8 hours long (including check-in time) and you may be on your feet almost all of that time (unless you indicate that you require a seated position).

Q: Will I be standing or sitting during my volunteer shifts?

A: As a Green Team volunteer, you will primarily be on your feet for the duration of your shift. Please be prepared to stand during your shift. Comfortable, closed-toed shoes are required.

Q: Are there any age restrictions for volunteers?

A: Volunteers under the age of 15 will not be permitted to volunteer on the Green Team.

Q: As a parent, can I bring my child with me to volunteer?

A: Unfortunately, no. Children will not be allowed to volunteer with parents due to liability reasons and safety concerns. Please make child care arrangements for your child while you volunteer.

Q: Can I bring a friend with me to volunteer?

A: Because of the organization of the Green Team structure, we are restricted to credentialing ONLY the volunteers we register in advance. Any unregistered guests will be turned away.

Q: What should I wear when I volunteer?

A: Volunteers will be provided a special Green Team t-shirt to wear during your volunteer shifts. Please make sure you wear either comfortable pants while volunteering. All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.

Q: What may I bring with me to the DNC as a volunteer?

A: Due to strict security of the Convention, personal items of all guests are extremely limited to include only the bare essentials and subject to the discretion of DNC Security. All liquids and gels are strictly prohibited. You may bring an empty water bottle and refill your bottle at water stations.

Q: Will I receive more specific information about volunteering later?

A: Once you have registered to volunteer, you will receive a confirmation email with your schedule. You will also receive everything you will need to know about what to wear, what to bring (and not to bring), and arrival information including public transportation and parking tips. Also, the above information will be discussed in detail at the volunteer training.

Q: Is there a cancellation date?

A: All cancellations must be made no later than Monday, July 11th, 2016.

Q: I’m planning on signing up for shifts at the same time as my friend or family member. Will I be able to volunteer with this person at the Convention?

A: Due to the high volume of both shift times and volunteers, we are unable to guarantee that you will be volunteering with your friend or family member. Our first priority is to fill our shifts and ensure that the proper number of volunteers are allocated to each venue. We can, however, suggest that you and your friend or family member sign up for the same shift times online.

Q: Where will I be volunteering at the Convention?

A: Volunteers will be scheduled to a specific area based on volunteer needs at each venue. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee a location and please arrive prepared to work inside or outside our venues.

Q: Where should I park and what is the best way to get way to get to the Convention via public transit?

A: All volunteers should use public transit. There is no parking on site. All volunteers will receive specific arrival instructions in the confirmation email and during the volunteer training.
